Parkinson's Disease

As a pharmacist-to-be, I should promote health. Health education is a part of daily work of a pharmacist. Okay, cut the carp. The first disease that i going to introduce today is Parkinson's Disease.

Parkinson's disease is a disease where some neuron cell in the brain dies particularly those involve the Dopamine pathways. This will often impairs the sufferer's motor skills and speech. Parkinson's disease belongs to a group of conditions called movement disorders. It is often characterized by muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement, and in extreme cases, a loss of physical movement.

Here is one good example of symptops of muscle rigidity and tremors.

As mentioned earlier, the degeneration of the dopamine neurons is the main causes of Parkinson's Disease. Hence, the treatment often involve giving the patient dopamine, more commonly Levodopa. This will help replenish the dopamine in the brian. It will help to reduce the "hand-shakiness" but it may lead to other symptoms like tongue sticking out of the mouth. Tongue sticking out does not means this,
